Located on the second floor of the Woodcarving Branch of Chung Tai World Museum in Puli, Nantou, Yunhua Restaurant is a distinctive eatery blending vegetarian cuisine, Zen-inspired aesthetics, and natural scenery. It is also a popular dining choice for many travelers after visiting Chung Tai Chan Monastery and Chung Tai World Museum. The restaurant serves pasta, rich curry rice, dry-mixed noodles, lion’s mane mushroom noodle soup, afternoon tea, coffee, and desserts in a tranquil and comfortable setting, perfect for family gatherings, trips with friends, or solo leisurely travel.

Yunhua Restaurant is situated on the second floor of the Woodcarving Branch of Chung Tai World Museum. In addition to direct access from inside the museum, it also features a separate staircase entrance, allowing visitors to dine at the restaurant without entering the museum. The layout is convenient and welcoming for general tourists.

Currently, Chung Tai World Museum is hosting the 10th Anniversary and International Museum Day Gratitude Event. From now until August 31, both the main museum and the Woodcarving Branch offer free admission (photography prohibited inside). It is recommended to enjoy the exhibitions first, then savor a leisurely vegetarian meal at Yunhua Restaurant for a fulfilling trip.

Next to the staircase, the “Small Chan Hall Staircase Ruins” of Chung Tai Chan Monastery and a historical timeline display wall have been preserved. This exhibition space was discovered and planned during excavation inside the retaining wall while installing the ramp leading to Yunhua Restaurant. It combines the former Small Chan Hall staircase ruins with a silhouette of the founding master, symbolizing “walking the path of the founding master,” adding cultural and historical meaning to the journey to the restaurant.

Yunhua Restaurant offers two main dining areas: indoor and outdoor.

The outdoor seating is surrounded by lush greenery and is especially pleasant on sunny days. With a gentle breeze, diners can enjoy their meal while taking in the mountain scenery, adding a sense of leisure and comfort.

The indoor space at Yunhua Restaurant features deep-toned wooden tables and chairs paired with private booth-style partitions, creating a serene and comfortable dining atmosphere. Large circular pendant lamps and soft lighting complement each other, making the space bright and spacious while showcasing a strong Zen aesthetic. Guests can relax both physically and mentally while savoring the cuisine.

Yunhua Restaurant | Rich Curry Rice

This time we ordered the Rich Curry Rice, which comes with a bowl of soup—miso soup on the day of our visit, light and refreshing.

The curry sauce at Yunhua Restaurant is thick and smooth, with a natural sweetness from vegetables and a subtle spice aroma. Paired with tender stewed potatoes and carrots, every bite is delightful. Served with crispy tofu skin and rice, it adds rich layers of flavor and is one of the restaurant’s recommended signature dishes.

Yunhua Braised Tofu

We also ordered a serving of Yunhua Braised Tofu. The tofu fully absorbs the braising sauce while retaining a moist and chewy texture. Stewed with Puli mushrooms, it highlights a rich aroma—savory without being overly salty, making it an increasingly addictive side dish.
