When traveling to Shaoxing, there are quite a few options if you're just looking for a clean and convenient hotel. However, the 「Kaiyuan Yiju · Haitang Yijiu Hotel」 I stayed at this time is the kind of accommodation where I couldn't help but take out my phone and keep snapping photos even before entering the room!
With white walls, gray tiles, wooden doors and windows, paired with a green courtyard and winding paths, the entire hotel doesn't feel like a typical standardized business hotel. Instead, it has the vibe of an old Jiangnan residence and a Chinese-style garden.
Moreover, it's not just beautiful on the outside—the location is also excellent, right in the ancient city living area of Yuecheng District, Shaoxing. Nearby are popular attractions such as Zhou Enlai Memorial Hall, Calligraphy Sage's Hometown, Cangqiao Straight Street, and Lu Xun's Hometown. For first-time independent travelers to Shaoxing who want to fully experience the ancient city's atmosphere, I think this location is really convenient.
The full name of this hotel is:
Kaiyuan Yiju · Haitang Yijiu Hotel (Shaoxing Lu Xun's Hometown Cangqiao Straight Street Branch)
The hotel opened in 2021 and has a total of 23 guest rooms. The scale isn't very large, which means it lacks the busy, crowded feel of larger hotels.
Official information positions it as an "urban resort courtyard Chinese-style" concept, and walking in, it really feels that way.
Low-rise white buildings with gray-black roof tiles, wooden doors, and wooden railings. Rooms are scattered throughout the courtyard, interspersed with plants, flowers, and landscaping.
If you didn't know it was a hotel, the photos alone might make it seem like you've stepped into an ancient Jiangnan residence in Shaoxing.
I especially like the hotel's outdoor environment.
Walking along the paths between rooms, both sides are lined with green plants, and you can see stone landscaping, flowing water, and garden designs. It's completely different from hotels where you step out of the elevator into a long corridor— even the walk back to your room feels like a vacation.
Although it's in downtown Shaoxing, the courtyard has an unexpectedly peaceful atmosphere amid the hustle and bustle.
This time I stayed in the 「Garden View King Room」.
Room details indicate approximately:
35㎡ is already quite comfortable for two people—once you put down your suitcase, there's still plenty of walking space.
I think the most eye-catching feature of this room is how it incorporates "Chinese elements" with a great sense of quality without feeling outdated.
Behind the bed is a full elegant landscape painting paired with warm indirect lighting. The ceiling incorporates wooden beam elements, with an overall palette of beige, coffee, and natural wood tones.
At first glance, it has an Eastern charm, yet the room facilities are those of a modern hotel.
This "new Chinese-style" design really suits Shaoxing!
White bed sheets paired with blue and beige Chinese-patterned bedding look simple and clean.
The wooden beam design on the ceiling adds a touch of ancient residence flavor, so you don't feel like you're staying in a chain hotel that's the same no matter which city you're in.
The bathroom is also one of the most impressive parts of this room.
It's not the common hotel layout where the toilet, sink, and shower are all crammed into one space. Instead, it features more complete zoning.
This setup is really convenient when two people are staying together.
While one person is showering, the other can still use the sink or toilet without everyone lining up for the same bathroom.
The sink uses a round countertop basin paired with a large round mirror, dark wood cabinet, and Chinese lattice screens. The shower area uses transparent glass partitions with black frames and gray stone-patterned walls.
The fusion of traditional Eastern elements and modern bathroom facilities is quite beautiful.
I think when staying at this hotel, you really shouldn't just photograph the rooms.
The hotel courtyard is one of its biggest highlights!
Between the white walls and gray tiles are many pine trees, shrubs, and flowers, plus stone paths, small water features, and Chinese lanterns. Any angle gives off a Jiangnan garden vibe.
Especially on nice days, the blue sky paired with white buildings and green plants makes for great photos.
If you like photography, I actually recommend taking a 10-15 minute stroll around the hotel after breakfast.
No need to rush to attractions—the hotel itself is great for photos.
The hotel has its own restaurant. Breakfast hours are approximately 07:00~10:00, with Chinese-style items as the main focus.
The restaurant itself has a comfortable wood-toned design.
High ceilings paired with a row of bamboo-style pendant lights, great natural light by the windows, and tables spaced comfortably without feeling crowded.
The breakfast selection isn't like a five-star hotel with endless options, but I think there's already enough variety.
You can see hot items like steamed buns, mantou, shumai, eggs, sweet potatoes, vegetables, fried noodles, and fried foods.
There are also pastries, small cakes, and salads.
I highly recommend trying a bowl of noodles!
Noodles with plenty of greens, plus toppings like seaweed, cilantro, and dried shrimp to your liking. It looks simple, but a hot bowl of noodle soup in the morning is really comforting.
The condiment station also has various sauces so you can adjust the flavor yourself.
Besides noodles, you can also find wontons at breakfast.
The wontons here are cute, with fillings about the size of boba pearls, thin and tender skins, served in clear broth with green onions and seaweed. A bowl in the morning is very stomach-warming.
If you don't want anything too oily first thing, I think "wonton soup + steamed bun + some greens" makes a very comfortable Chinese breakfast combo.
Besides the environment, I think the biggest advantage of Kaiyuan Yiju · Haitang Yijiu Hotel is its location.
The hotel address is at No. 246-15, Laodong Road, Fushan Street, Yuecheng District, Shaoxing. Zhou Enlai Memorial Hall is very close by.
According to distances provided by booking platforms:
Zhou Enlai Memorial Hall: less than 100 meters
Calligraphy Sage's Hometown: about 590 meters
City Square Metro Station: about 570–610 meters
Cangqiao Straight Street: about 890 meters
Lu Xun's Hometown / Shaoxing Lu Xun Former Residence: about 1.2 km
Shaoxing Station: about 1.9 km
These are all places worth including in your itinerary for a first visit to Shaoxing.
So if your travel focus is exploring Shaoxing's ancient city, I think staying here is more convenient than a large hotel farther away.
You can start exploring right after leaving in the morning, and you won't need to spend extra time on transportation when returning at night.
After staying here, what attracts me most isn't luxury but how it feels **"very Shaoxing"**.
From the white walls and gray tiles outside, the courtyard flowers and trees, to the landscape paintings and wooden elements in the room, and even the baskets of steamed buns, mantou, and fresh noodles at breakfast—all make the stay itself part of the Shaoxing travel experience.
With only around twenty rooms, it lacks some of the business-hotel feel of larger properties and instead gives the sense of quietly staying in a Jiangnan courtyard.
If it's your first time in Shaoxing and you're looking for accommodation that is:
close to Lu Xun's Hometown and Cangqiao Straight Street, convenient transportation, beautiful environment, and with Chinese garden characteristics—this one is definitely worth adding to your list!
