Hualien Food "Tamura Sushi" A budget-friendly old shop highly recommended by locals! Must-order salmon hand roll on the menu, complete transportation and location guide!

When it comes to affordable sushi in Hualien, the first name that comes to mind is hard not to think of "Tamura Sushi".

This decades-old sushi shop has been operating locally for many years. We've visited several times, and every time the scene looks almost the same—people waiting at the door, the store packed with customers, business booming.

Tamura Sushi is a unique "Taiwanese-style sushi restaurant." If you're expecting quiet, refined, counter-style Japanese sushi, it might not be what you imagine.

But if you like plenty of choices, friendly prices, and the lively vibe of ordering a bit of everything, Tamura Sushi will make you understand why it's been a hit in Hualien for so long.

Tamura Sushi is located on De'an 1st Street in downtown Hualien, right at the corner. The large white sign with black characters is very eye-catching.

If driving, you can look for street parking nearby, but during peak hours it may take some patience. It's about a 10-minute drive from Hualien Train Station, making it easily accessible in the city.

📍 Store Information | Tamura Sushi

• Address: No. 225, De'an 1st Street, Hualien City

• Phone: 03-834-8673

• Hours: 11:00–14:00; 16:30–20:00

The dining space is two stories with plenty of tables, seating available on both the first and second floors, offering a spacious overall area.

Even with many seats, it's often full. When we arrived near closing time, we thought we could sit right away but still had to wait a bit, finishing just as the last group left.

Opening the Tamura Sushi menu, you'll find a truly rich selection.

Besides basic sushi, sashimi, hand rolls, grilled and fried items, there are also Taiwanese snacks like braised pork rice and dry noodles! It's the perfect combo for families with kids or those wanting to eat their fill while trying a variety.

We ordered a variety of dishes for two adults and two kids, basically "pointing at whatever looked good," and tried different types along the way.

Salmon Sashimi & Salmon Nigiri

Salmon lovers can't miss this. The salmon sashimi thoughtfully comes with lemon slices for a refreshing taste, while the salmon nigiri is drizzled with a savory-sweet soy sauce glaze. The fish is rich and smooth, the vinegared rice firm—giving that satisfying traditional Taiwanese-style sushi feel!

Yam + Flower Sushi

The yam sushi has a refreshing texture that pairs well with the vinegared rice; the flower sushi is generously topped, delivering the classic flavor of traditional Taiwanese sushi shops.

Mixed Salad

This plate is packed with sincerity—broccoli, corn, fish roe salad, abalone substitute, smoked shark, and more, all in one dish.

Pineapple Shrimp Balls

Golden-fried shrimp balls covered in plenty of mayo—kids love them. Paired with pineapple and lettuce for a refreshing, palate-cleansing bite.

Chawanmushi, Miso Soup

The chawanmushi is silky with a distinct egg aroma; the miso soup has just the right saltiness, comes in a generous bowl, and feels warming and comforting.

Century Egg Tofu

Topped with plenty of bonito flakes—simple yet the perfect appetizer.

Yellow Noodles (Dry)

You won't find this at other sushi shops! Simple dry yellow noodles with sauce and two slices of lean meat—pure authentic Taiwanese flavor.

Fried Pork Cutlet

Not quite what I expected—based on the name, I thought it would be Japanese-style tonkatsu!

Overall, the crust is crispy, the meat isn't tough, and the sauce is quite good.

Tamura Sushi isn't a high-end, artisan-focused sushi restaurant. It's more like a Japanese-style family diner that has grown up with Hualien locals.

With lots of choices, reasonable prices, and ample space, it's great for gatherings with friends, family meals, or when you want sushi without spending too much.

If you're visiting Hualien and looking for an affordable sushi spot where you can eat your fill, Tamura Sushi is worth adding to your itinerary—just be prepared to wait during peak hours.
