🇹🇷 Turkey Large-Scale Raids on LGBTQ+ Groups and Venues


Turkey recently launched actions in multiple locations targeting LGBTQ+ groups, activists and related venues under the name "My Family Is Safe". Police searched association offices, activists' homes and gay bars, blocked some websites and social media accounts, and detained many people.


The Turkish government stated that the operation involves criminal investigations such as prostitution and obscenity, with the aim of "protecting children and family values"; however, human rights groups pointed out that the targets of searches and restrictions also include LGBTQ+ human rights and community organizations, expressing concern that this represents further expansion of suppression against LGBTQ+ civil society.
