Recently while scrolling on my phone, I was drawn to a shop with a very interesting name called 「無聊秘境」! Since it's called a secret realm, how could someone who loves exploring not come check it out? I picked a weekend to drive into the Sanxia mountain area, and unexpectedly found such a great spot hidden right by the roadside that makes you want to linger.

If you've been feeling a bit bored with life lately and want a place to enjoy mountain and river views without breaking a sweat climbing, this post is a must-save!

New Taipei Sanxia Scenic Restaurant 「無聊秘境」 Hidden Riverside Forest-Style Brunch, Gourmet in the Mountain Greenery!

Driving from Sanxia downtown, head up Provincial Highway 7B toward Daxi. After about 5.7k on Provincial Highway 7B, you'll spot a unique wooden sign by the road reading 「無聊秘境健康早午餐」.

It's right beside the road halfway up the mountain. If driving, there's a large open parking area at the entrance, very convenient. Though it's a mountain road, the conditions are good. Watching the increasingly lush greenery outside the window while driving helps you relax.

The exterior of 無聊秘境 is a minimalist black single-story building with large glass windows. The indoor space is very bright and comfortable, with huge floor-to-ceiling windows bringing the surrounding mountain greenery inside. Even sitting in air-conditioned comfort, you feel surrounded by nature.

However, the most popular spot is definitely the outdoor seating area!

The outdoor seating is a row of high bar stools facing the valley. Once seated, the clear Wuliao River flows beneath your feet, with white waves splashing over rocks and the soothing sound of flowing water.

Sitting here with the mountain breeze, gazing at the lush green forest and stream, all the stress from the city melts away instantly.

If you like taking photos, this outdoor view makes for stunning influencer-style shots as if hidden deep in the mountains!

They use convenient online ordering—just scan the code to browse the menu. Here are a few house rules summarized for you:

No service charge: Great! The minimum per person is just one meal or one drink.

90-minute dining limit: Though there's a time limit, they're very accommodating. As long as it's not full or someone has booked after you, they won't disturb you, so you can enjoy your time leisurely.

Eggs default to soft-boiled: Most dishes come with a super soothing sunny-side-up egg (soft-boiled). If you don't eat raw yolks, remember to request fully cooked when ordering!

The menu focuses on healthy and delicious options, mainly categorized as 「Crispy Bread Brunch」, 「Healthy Five-Grain Poke Bowl」, and 「No-Carb Fresh Warm Salad」, plus desserts and drinks.

Our group of two adults and one child ordered two meals and one dessert—all were excellent!

Garlic Shrimp Brunch (NT$ 360)

This dish looks impressive as soon as it arrives! The shrimp are thoughtfully peeled, so no mess while eating—full marks for that. The shrimp meat is fresh and bouncy, topped with plenty of crispy fried garlic slices for a mouthwatering aroma. Served with fresh seasonal vegetable salad (broccoli, cherry tomatoes, okra, etc.) and that soulful soft-boiled sunny-side-up egg.

Bread choice: Parmesan cheese bread or French maple croissant—we chose the croissant. It's baked crispy outside with a light buttery maple aroma, pairing perfectly with the shrimp and salad.

Pan-Seared Steak Poke Bowl (NT$ 380)

For a healthy yet satisfying meal, this poke bowl is highly recommended! It starts with nutritious five-grain rice, topped with plenty of fresh seasonal vegetables like edamame, corn, tomato, broccoli, and mushrooms—colorful and wholesome.

The steak portion is generous, perfectly seared, cut into easy-to-eat pieces, tender and juicy, sprinkled with garlic slices. Poke the soft-boiled egg to let the golden yolk flow over the steak and rice—smooth texture that keeps you coming back for more.

You can add a drink for NT$30–80. We added NT$30 for the local 「Sanxia Biluochun Cold Brew Tea」.

Served in a clear bottle showing the tea leaves inside, it's super refreshing and sweet, no bitterness, perfect for cutting richness—ideal match for the garlic-infused brunch!

Tiramisu (NT$ 100)

After the main course, dessert is a must. The top layer of mascarpone cheese is silky smooth, the middle cake soaked with elegant coffee liqueur flavor that melts in your mouth. Sweetness is just right, with a mature bittersweet taste.

After brunch, if time allows, stop by these nearby spots for a perfect day trip:

Wuliao Tip Hiking Trail: For outdoor enthusiasts who love challenges, this famous rock-climbing spot is nearby. High difficulty—ensure proper gear and fitness before tackling the thrilling cliff ridge.

Daxi Old Tea Factory: Continuing on Provincial Highway 7B leads to Daxi. The old tea factory is a historic blue-toned building. Inside it's air-conditioned and comfortable, offering tea culture insights, quality tea souvenirs, and stylish photo ops.

Sanxia Old Street and Qingshui Zushi Temple: On the way back, explore Sanxia's red-brick arcade old street, try a freshly baked golden bull horn bread, and visit the temple to admire exquisite stone carvings and local culture.

「無聊秘境」 is anything but boring. Right by the road, it offers a dining space nestled by the stream amid greenery, with fresh ingredients and thoughtful seasoning that makes you want to laze away an entire afternoon here.

Next weekend if you're unsure where to unwind, drive up Provincial Highway 7B, listen to the water, enjoy the garlic shrimp, and recharge!
