The tall pile of wood at the entrance, like a small mountain, is quite eye-catching! The kiln-baked bread here is truly made using these natural woods to maintain heat and baked one kiln after another in the most primitive flames!

There is also a sign for "Firewood Splitting Experience" for those interested.

Upon entering the shop, the first thing you smell is the rich aroma of bread, and the owner couple greets you with bright smiles.

The story behind the establishment of Taomi Chai Shao Kiln is heartwarming. Founder Chen Minghe, after years away from home, encountered wood-fired kiln baking techniques and decided to bring this traditional method back to his hometown of Puli, hoping to contribute to local revitalization through wood-fired kiln culture.

The most impressive thing here is how warm and friendly the owner couple is. First-timers feel no distance at all—they actively greet guests, generously offer bread samples, and even serve black tea and pour-over coffee, filling the place with human warmth.

The shop's biggest feature is its wood-fired kiln-baked bread. Unlike ordinary bakeries that use electric ovens, this place uses natural wood as a heat source and traditional wood-fired kiln methods to make bread.

Various kiln-baked breads range in price from NT$65 to NT$170, quite affordable. Items include kiln-baked French baguettes, kiln-baked scallion meat bread, walnut bread, cranberry bread, and wood-fired Taomi milk toast.

The seating area is spacious and bright, with a semi-open space featuring wooden tables and chairs, surrounded by lush green plants that make you feel relaxed.

I thought it might be hot, but there was a gentle breeze that day, making it quite comfortable. Sitting here with a cup of coffee is really nice!

If you bring kids along, this is also a place to experience rural life.

The shop offers firewood splitting experiences, fish biting hands, and occasional wood-fired kiln and jam DIY activities, allowing children to experience lifestyles less common in the city and adding fun to the trip.

This time we bought breads including original and longan flavors. Each one feels heavy in hand, with generous portions!

The breads here are made with French flour and overnight fermented starter, then kiln-baked after long fermentation, giving a rich wheat aroma and solid texture.

Take them home and heat briefly in the oven—the crust has a unique wood-fired char aroma and crispness, while the inside is very chewy. As you chew, the rich wheat fragrance of the old dough and French flour slowly unfolds in your mouth.

There are also many nearby attractions around Taomi Chai Shao Kiln & Fang Yuan Coffee worth visiting, such as the famous Taomi Ecological Village, Paper Church, Nina Chocolate Dream Castle, and Taomi Water Park, all nearby.

This visit to Taomi Chai Shao Kiln & Fang Yuan Coffee, what I liked most was not just the wood-fired bread itself, but the strong human warmth and leisurely atmosphere here. Sitting in the greenery-filled space, smelling the freshly baked bread aroma, sipping pour-over coffee, and gazing at the mountain view outside for a moment is the simplest yet happiest enjoyment during the trip.

If you plan a trip to Puli or Sun Moon Lake, save this unique wood-fired kiln bakery to experience the slow-living charm unique to Taomi Ecological Village.
