Tokiya Douliu Minsheng South Store is located on Minsheng South Road in Douliu City. The standalone storefront is quite eye-catching, with a white building paired with a purple signboard, giving the overall appearance a clean look with strong brand recognition.
The restaurant interior mainly features wooden elements combined with off-white and gray tones, accented by rose-gold curved pendant lights and green plants hanging from the ceiling, adding a natural and relaxing atmosphere to the space.
The arched mirror design on the walls also makes the interior feel more spacious visually.
Seating mainly consists of two-person tables, multi-person seats, and sofa seats. The tabletops are spacious, and the overall environment is bright and comfortable, making it ideal for family gatherings, friend meetups, or holiday meals.
Tokiya mainly offers set meals. A complete Japanese-Western set meal includes salad, appetizer, soup, main course, Japanese dish, dessert, and drink, totaling 7 courses.
First up is the Garden Salad with Grilled Chicken Thigh.
The plate features sweet potato, pumpkin, cherry tomatoes, king oyster mushrooms, lettuce, and grilled chicken thigh pieces, offering a rich variety of colors.
The chicken thigh paired with vegetables delivers a refreshing texture. It also comes with a small cup of special Japanese-style sesame dressing, which can be drizzled or dipped according to personal taste.
For the appetizer, we chose the Dancing Takoyaki for an additional NT$39.
The takoyaki is served in a small cast-iron pot topped with bonito flakes. When first brought to the table, the bonito flakes gently flutter with the steam, giving it the fun name “Dancing Takoyaki.”
The takoyaki has a crispy exterior and a moist interior. Be careful as it is quite hot when served.
Inside, you can taste the chewy octopus pieces, complemented by mayonnaise and sweet-savory sauce, making the overall flavor quite appealing.
The soup is Kombu Seafood Clear Soup.
Based on kombu and bonito broth, it includes shrimp, fish, and clams. The broth is clear and offers a natural sweetness from the seafood.
The shrimp and clams add rich oceanic flavors, resulting in a refreshing taste overall.
After the soup, a Mulberry Vinegar Shaved Ice is served.
The shaved ice has a fine texture with a slightly sour-sweet taste, helping to refresh the palate before the main course arrives.
For the main course, we chose the Garlic Tile Steak, one of Tokiya’s signature dishes.
The beef is marinated in kombu-bonito broth, then seared at high heat to lock in the juices, served with golden crispy fried garlic slices.
The steak itself has a rich meaty aroma, enhanced by the crunchy garlic for added texture and fragrance.
It also comes with dipping sauce and rose salt, allowing you to customize the flavor to your liking.
Seasonal side dishes include corn, broccoli, pumpkin, and sweet potato, providing a nice vegetable balance alongside the meat.
For the Japanese dish, we chose Kabayaki Eel Rice.
The delicate small bowl contains fragrant rice topped with kabayaki eel, shredded nori, red pickled ginger, and green onions.
The kabayaki eel offers a savory sauce and rich oiliness that pairs perfectly with the rice.
A small dollop of wasabi is served on the side of the bowl for those who want an extra kick, adding a nice variation to the eel’s flavor.
The dessert is Japanese Caramel Pudding.
The pudding has a dense, creamy texture with a rich egg aroma, topped with fresh cream and strawberries for an elegant presentation.
The caramel sauce pairs well with the pudding, offering just the right sweetness as the final course of the set meal.
For the drink, we chose Kumquat Lemon Shaved Ice.
The shaved ice carries the sweet-tart aroma of kumquat and lemon, providing a refreshing finish that also helps cleanse the palate after the meal.
