Kyushu Parent-Child Trip Day 3, we arranged a self-drive day trip to Beppu & Yufuin, from Beppu Sea Hell, Hell Steamed Cuisine all the way to Yunotsubo Street and Kinrin Lake.
This time we chose to stay at 「Rakuten STAY HOUSE × WILL STYLE Yufuin Kawakami」, which turned out to be a complete surprise on this trip. Originally, we just wanted to find a reasonably priced accommodation with parking, but after checking in, it felt more like staying at a friend’s vacation home.
The entire two-story building offers spacious space, including a living room, kitchen, dining area, Japanese-style room, and bedrooms. You can even cook and do laundry yourself, which is incredibly convenient for families traveling abroad with children.
During summer vacation, we stayed in Room 103. For two adults and two children, the rate was just over NT$3,000 per night, which is quite a bargain on average. Especially since many hot spring inns around Yufuin are on the pricier side, this type of whole-building rental is definitely worth considering if you’re traveling by car like us.
Rakuten STAY HOUSE × WILL STYLE Yufuin Kawakami is located right beside the main road, about a 5-minute drive from Yufuin Station and roughly 1.5 hours from Fukuoka Airport.
Upon arrival, you’ll see three modern, minimalist black buildings with parking available nearby. Simply set the guesthouse name in your navigation app—perfect for self-drive travelers!

Rakuten STAY HOUSE × WILL STYLE Yufuin Kawakami offers fully self-service, unmanned check-in, emphasizing privacy and flexibility. The day before check-in (or once the reservation is confirmed), the system will send an email containing the Smart Key password lock information.
Check-in Process: Upon arriving at the entrance, enter the password to unlock the door. After entering, remember to complete the self check-in process using the tablet inside the house.
⚠️ Friendly Reminder: If you don’t receive the password email the day before check-in, be sure to contact customer service promptly! Also, BBQ and fireworks are prohibited throughout the property.
Upon entering, the bright and clean living room instantly puts you at ease! The wooden floors paired with warm-toned decor create a particularly cozy atmosphere. After bathing at night, curling up on the sofa to chat, watch videos, or enjoy a late-night snack feels just like being at home.
What’s especially unique is the popIn Aladdin home theater projector—perfect for catching up on shows or movies on the big screen.
The kitchen space is also generous, equipped with a four-burner IH stove, refrigerator, microwave, electric kettle, pots, utensils, knives, cutting boards, plates, and more—everything you need.
There’s also a Nespresso capsule coffee machine, perfect for enjoying a great cup of coffee in the morning or during afternoon tea.
Outside the living room is an outdoor terrace with tables and chairs—on nice days, sitting here and breathing in Yufuin’s fresh air is wonderfully relaxing.
The second floor features two separate bedrooms, each with a double bed. The mattresses are medium-firm and comfortable to sleep on, with plenty of space to spread out luggage.
Another area is a Japanese-style tatami room that can be used as sleeping space with futons. The entire house accommodates up to 6 people, making it ideal for parent-child families, multi-generational trips, and group getaways with friends.
On longer trips, running out of clean clothes is a common worry—having a washing machine here is a huge plus. You can wash clothes at night, hang them up, and they’ll be dry and ready to wear again.
The bathroom is clean and bright, with a large bathtub perfect for soaking away the fatigue from a full day of sightseeing.
The toilet is separate—small but also clean and comfortable.
On our first night, we visited YouMe Town Beppu for shopping, then picked up groceries at the 24-hour MaxValu before returning to the guesthouse to cook dinner ourselves. No need to rush—complete freedom in planning our schedule.
The best part of staying in a whole-building vacation home with a large kitchen is the joy of “cooking for yourself”!
After returning, we plated our meal on stylish dishes, filled the large wooden dining table, and enjoyed dinner together as a family. This kind of relaxed, warm moment is what a real vacation is all about.
Staying at Rakuten STAY HOUSE x WILL STYLE Yufuin Kawakami for just over NT$3,400 per night felt like an incredible deal! Whether it’s the excellent privacy, the convenience of fully equipped home appliances, or the comfortable living atmosphere, it gave us wonderful memories of our Kyushu trip.
