When you don't know where to go for a stroll on holidays, heading to the Tamsui Bali area is the right choice. Especially "Bali Old Street," where you can stroll while eating delicious food, enjoy river views, and ride bicycles, it's really suitable for arranging family and parent-child half-day trips.
This time we originally just wanted to take a simple stroll at Bali Old Street, but unexpectedly ended up eating quite a few things along the way. The most impressive was the popular "Tongli Twins Store (Sisters)," which many people queue for and recommend. The freshly fried twins and milk crisp rolls have a truly captivating aroma.
Bali Old Street is located in Bali District, New Taipei City, near the Tamsui Riverbank. The entire old street extends along the river, with nearby ferry piers, bike paths, and riverside view cafes, making it a popular holiday strolling spot in northern Taiwan.
Many people plan to visit Tamsui and Bali together, taking the ferry from Tamsui to Bali, enjoying the sea breeze and river views, creating a very relaxed atmosphere overall.
Transportation to Bali Old Street:
If driving, simply navigate to "Bali Old Street" or "Bali Ferry Pier."
For public transport, besides taking the ferry from Tamsui, you can also take buses to "Ferry Pier Station," "Bali Old Street Station," or "Bali District Office Station." Multiple bus routes can reach there, including from MRT Guandu Station, MRT Luzhou Station, and MRT Taipei Bridge Station.
We drove this time, and even though it was evening on a holiday, there were still quite a few people. There are actually several parking lots near Bali Old Street, but with many visitors on holidays, you might need to wait a bit for a spot.
I really like the relaxed vibe of Bali Old Street. Unlike some tourist old streets that get overly crowded, Bali has the riverside right next to it, so even with many people, there's still a relaxing feeling. Along the way, besides various snack shops, you can also enjoy the beautiful riverside scenery.
Many people rent bicycles to ride along the left bank, while others simply sit by the river chatting in the breeze. On nice weather days, it's really perfect for a leisurely stroll.
This time at Bali Old Street, one of our goals was to buy twins. Although there are quite a few twin shops in Bali, Tongli Twins Store (Sisters) has always been very popular, with people constantly queuing. The store isn't large, but the frying station hardly stops, and the aroma of freshly fried items is truly enticing.
Their twins have a more old-fashioned taste. The outer layer is fried to a golden crisp, with a slightly flaky texture when bitten, while the inside is soft yet chewy, with moderate sweetness.
Eating them hot right after frying is especially delicious, with a clear flour aroma that makes you want to keep eating one after another.
Besides the signature twins, we also bought milk crisp rolls. The milk crisp rolls look like twisted dough, with an outer layer similar to donut texture, and filled with milk crisp inside. The amount of milk crisp isn't too much, and the sweetness is just right without being overly cloying. Eating them hot right after frying really adds to the experience.
Besides twins, there are many other snacks along Bali Old Street, such as grilled squid, fried items, various drinks, seafood snacks, grilled sausages, etc. Walking and eating along the way will quietly fill you up.
Visiting Bali Old Street again this time, I still think it's very suitable for a parent-child half-day trip. No need for a strict itinerary—just strolling, enjoying the breeze, viewing the river scenery, and eating delicious food along the way makes the whole trip very relaxing.
If you have a Tamsui trip planned, I think you can take the ferry over to Bali Old Street for a walk, eat some twins and milk crisp rolls, then stroll along the riverbank—the whole itinerary will be very relaxing and pleasant.
