Every time I come to Taitung, there are always a few fixed must-eat lists, and stinky tofu is definitely one of them!
Previously, we used to eat Lin Family Stinky Tofu, but this time we decided to try a different flavor, to try this place that locals also highly recommend 'Zeng Ji Crispy Stinky Tofu', unexpectedly, after one bite, we were hooked, not only is the stinky tofu great, but the fried items are also super strong, it can definitely be added to the Taitung must-eat list!
The store is located on Jingcheng Road in Taitung city center, not in a bustling area, but not hard to find,
it's one of those hidden gems that only locals know about.
The store has a very traditional snack shop style, with a conspicuous yellow signboard that's easy to spot, the indoor space is simple and clean, with a bit of the friendliness of a local snack shop, no fancy decorations, but very comfortable.

Zeng Ji Crispy Stinky Tofu sells a limited number of items, mainly focusing on a few signature dishes:

Simple but specialized, and the store emphasizes using freshly made tofu from the daily tofu factory, pure handmade and without adding chemical additives, so it's more reassuring to eat.
Crispy Stinky Tofu $100 (Large portion)
This dish really amazed us! The outer skin is fried super crispy, to the level of 'crackling when you bite', but inside it's very tender and juicy, with no dry or hard feeling at all.
Paired with the store's homemade pickles + sauce + chili, it's sour, sweet, and mildly spicy just right, the overall layers are very rich! It's really one bite after another.
Assorted Fried $80
This plate of assorted fried is simply beautiful like a work of art, the store fries the edges to a crispy and fragrant state, with that kind of lacy crispness!
We ordered the assorted fried which includes fresh and sweet oysters and shrimp, drizzled with a special pink sweet and spicy sauce, it's a double enjoyment for both vision and taste.
This time, instead of sticking to old habits and eating at 'Zeng Ji', I really feel like I found the right one! Compared to other famous stores in the city that have long lines, Zeng Ji has more of the locals' friendliness, and the insistence on ingredients is reflected in the taste.
Next time if you come to Taitung Jingcheng Road area, remember to leave some space in your stomach to experience the crispy magic of this stinky tofu!
