🌟Today we visited 王牌雞腿飯, which used to be near the office. I used to pass by occasionally, but one day I suddenly noticed the store was gone and thought it had quietly closed. Later I found out it had just moved, so this time I had the chance and decided to check if it’s still the same after the move.
🌟As soon as I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the noticeable temperature—the store had no air conditioning, and the whole space felt like an oven preheating. I started sweating not long after sitting down. Seeing the staff constantly frying chicken legs, packing bento boxes, and moving around, I was really impressed. Just sitting there eating felt hot enough, yet they could still work normally.
🌟The menu is pretty much the same as two years ago, and what’s even more surprising is that after all this time the prices haven’t gone up noticeably. With everything else rising in price these days, seeing the original prices still there makes you feel the owner is pretty generous. Maybe they’re saving on air conditioning costs and quietly passing the savings on to the meals—another way of giving back to customers.
🌟The side dishes that come with all three chicken leg rice sets are the same: cabbage, wood ear mushrooms, and cucumber. The pairing looks simple and clear, and you don’t have to worry about getting different sides with different flavors. This time I ordered the XO Spicy, Thai Sweet & Sour, and Peppercorn Chicken Leg Rice.
🌟The XO Spicy Chicken Leg Rice is said to be very challenging in heat level. A colleague who doesn’t eat spicy food ordered it and ended up in tears from the spice.
🌟The Thai Sweet & Sour Chicken Leg Rice felt like the most reasonable of the three. The sweet and sour flavor pairs well with the fried chicken leg and is a relatively safe choice.
🌟I had high hopes for the Peppercorn Chicken Leg Rice, but when I actually tried it the sourness stood out more than the numbing spice. Instead of calling it peppercorn, I personally think renaming it to sour-spicy would help everyone prepare mentally—the acidity was like accidentally pouring too much vinegar, adding several extra loops. I kept eating while grimacing.
