Besides the Green Pastures and sheep show, venturing into Bowang New Village above 2000 meters to find authentic Yunnan-Myanmar Baiyi cuisine has long been a must-visit for foodies.
Hidden in the village, Mesler Dai Flavor Restaurant inherits recipes from elders, perfectly blending traditional Baiyi spices, Thai-style sour-spicy flavors, and local ingredients. Most dishes come in large, medium, and small portions, so even two or three people can enjoy a full table of classic Yunnan dishes.
Address: No. 23, Bowang Lane, Datong Village, Ren'ai Township, Nantou County, inside Cingjing Bowang New Village.
Drive or ride along Provincial Highway 14A toward Hehuan Mountain. After passing Cingjing Farm, at around the 12.3 km mark, turn right at the Bowang New Village archway into the village path.
The lanes inside Bowang New Village are narrow. Park at the village entrance lot and walk about 2-3 minutes into the village.
Take Nantou Bus Cingjing Farm route and get off at [Bowang New Village stop], then walk 10 minutes.
Entering Bowang New Village, you see the rustic military dependents' village style.
Mesler Dai Flavor Restaurant has no flashy decor, just the simple warmth of a mountain eatery.
Free special chili oil and black tea provided.
Stepping inside, you won't find overly ornate luxury—just a calm, rustic vibe with a rich historical feel of Yunnan-Myanmar mountain life.
The high, open interior has spacious, comfortable table spacing. Wood and bamboo elements add a natural touch of Dai village charm from the south.
Traditional brocade and totem decorations from the Yunnan-Myanmar border hang on the simple walls.
Under warm yellow light, they silently tell the story of this highland village's migration with the army.
Suitable for 2-16 people.
Fine, tender, bright yellow pea jelly with pure bean aroma. The special sauce underneath is tangy with a hint of numbness, topped with crushed peanuts, sesame, and cilantro—perfect as an appetizer.
Ultra-thin pig head skin tossed with lemon juice, shredded cabbage, cilantro, and Yunnan spices. No greasy feel, just a slight spicy crunch to whet the appetite.
Must-order for every table!
Wrap a spoonful of stir-fried minced meat with chili, garlic, and secret Baiyi spices in a crisp lettuce leaf. The sweet crunch of cabbage balances the rich, spicy filling—once you finish one, you'll want another.
A whole fresh fish stuffed with natural herbal spices, tied with string, and deep-fried.
Flake the fish to release the aroma of lemongrass, sawtooth coriander, and spices. The flesh is tender and juicy, infused with herbal fragrance and mild heat—no fishy taste at all.
Unlike typical dry Thai fried chicken, this is moistened with pepper麻 sauce. Golden crispy skin soaked in tangy, numbing, slightly sweet sauce. Thick, juicy chicken thigh paired with sauce-soaked shredded cabbage— the Sichuan pepper numbness spreads at the back of the tongue. Addictive.
A home-style favorite. House-made sour pickled vegetables stir-fried with minced pork. The hot oil releases the unique tangy aroma— this dish alone will make you finish a bowl of rice without noticing.
Red fruit means ripe tomatoes, stir-fried with fermented black beans and minced pork. The natural acidity of tomato blends perfectly with meaty savoriness, richer than typical tomato dishes with a touch of highland spice. Perfect with rice.
Fluffy and thick like cake, golden crispy edges, soft and moist inside.
Made with fresh angelica leaves grown in Cingjing. No bitterness, just a sweet, elegant highland herbal aroma and rich egg fragrance.
Coated and fried to extreme crispiness, crackling when bitten, juicy marinated pork inside. Crispy outside, tender inside—delicious plain while hot, or dipped in special chili soy sauce for extra salty-numbing flavor.
A mountain finale that many hesitate to try but foodies rave about! Golden after high-heat frying, no strange smell. Texture like shrimp crackers.
"Pa Hu" in Baiyi means beef stewed until very tender. The chunks are melt-in-your-mouth soft.
The broth is slow-simmered with beef bones and various herbs—clear yet deeply flavorful, with a hint of spice and warmth at the finish. One bowl warms you right up.
Unique handmade pointed horn-shaped zongzi with subtle rice aroma and mild sweetness.
Served with rich coconut powder—adds a layer of coconut fragrance. Perfect sweet ending to a heavy, spicy meal.
Plump grains with subtle jasmine fragrance—pairs perfectly with the bold-flavored table.
Slightly sweet signature hot tea— the ultimate savior against grease and spice.

Reservations are recommended during weekends or holidays to avoid long waits.
Absolutely! Angelica omelette, cloud milk dragon beard, crispy pork, and beef horn zongzi are all non-spicy. Most dishes can be adjusted for spice level upon request.
The mental barrier is bigger than the taste! Fried until very dry and crispy, tastes like savory crackers or fried river shrimp—no strange flavor. Worth trying.
Most dishes come in small portions. For 2-3 people, 3-4 small dishes plus a soup is plenty.
