Today, while chatting with my supervisor at the company, we suddenly talked about something I hadn't thought about in detail, but looking back, I find it very interesting. When I was interviewed, it was actually me and another colleague who came in together, and now he is preparing to take over SMT and MI, while I am responsible for the system line.
The supervisor mentioned that he had initially evaluated our two traits; he said that colleague of mine is very strong in data processing, Excel, macros, report analysis, and has great logic, but relatively speaking, he is more inclined towards the type that 'calculates and organizes things well,' without that feeling of quickly grasping key points, making judgments, and decisions in chaos.
On the contrary, he thinks I have more ability to grasp direction, coordinate, and make trade-offs in many uncertainties, and plus my personality is not that rigid; if thrown into a harder environment like the system line, I have a better chance of enduring it. He even said that if it were my colleague taking over the system line today, he might directly confront the system line supervisor head-on, even arguing.
When I heard it at the moment, I didn't really know how to respond, I just smiled and told him that I always feel like I've been pushed into a pit of fire.
Because really, the system line is not a easy place to get along.
Before me, there have been several production managers who switched, and one of them has now transferred to production and sales; when we chatted before, he also mentioned that the biggest problem with the system line is 'difficult to communicate.' Many things are rigid and hard, with low flexibility; you say yours, they do theirs, there's not much of that mutual adjustment or figuring things out together.
This is very different from my previous work state at the former company; back then, I could really call the shots, the site would proactively discuss with me, ask me to help arrange the order, and I was very confident in quickly judging and handling things, feeling fully in the loop.
But after coming here, everything starts over; I become a rookie, have to relearn many things, and still have to coordinate in an originally hard-to-communicate production line environment; moreover, the system line team leader himself is quite serious and doesn't smile much, he even rarely communicates with me face-to-face, mostly through line assistants or maintenance people to relay.
Honestly, this is my first time seeing a production line that dislikes direct dialogue with the production manager so much; it's eye-opening.
Over time, I actually feel a bit unbalanced inside.
Because the supervisor said my personality is less likely to cause conflicts, so it's suitable to place me here, but sometimes I can't help but think, is it because I'm less likely to resist that I'm put in this position? Is it because I can endure that I'm arranged to bear this environment?
I always feel like, is my advantage being used as a reason to withstand pressure?
It's not that I completely can't understand the supervisor's considerations; after all, from his perspective, he would naturally want to place people in the 'position with the most opportunity to operate,' but when I'm struggling in this position, it's inevitable to have some doubts, whether this is a precise way of seeing people or a certain degree of sacrifice.
But thinking back, now it seems there aren't many options; since I'm already in this position, I can only find a way to survive in this environment, maybe not by head-on confrontation, but by my own rhythm, little by little establishing the possibility of communication, finding points to intervene; the process will certainly not be easy, and it's not necessarily my favorite state, but I can only keep trying.
