On the second day of our Fuzhou trip, we first strolled around Shangxia Hang in the morning for some local eats, then walked all the way to "Jasmine Street". In fact, Shangxia Hang, Jasmine Street, and Yantai Mountain are quite close to each other, making them perfect for a half-day or full-day walking itinerary. Stroll and browse at your own pace, and rest in a café when tired—the overall vibe is very relaxed.
The weather in Fuzhou was great that day, and walking along the streets to soak in the local atmosphere was wonderful. However, it happened to be the May Day holiday, so popular attractions were packed with crowds, adding a lively travel vibe to the whole city.
Jasmine Street is located near the intersection of Wuyi South Road and Jiangbin Middle Avenue in Taijiang District, Fuzhou, and is also home to the popular "Minjiang Heart". This area is part of Fuzhou's core "Two Rivers and Four Banks" scenic belt, stretching about 4.1 km from Sanxianzhou Bridge in the west to Minjiang Bridge in the east. It connects Youth Square, Zhongzhou Island, Jiangxin Island, and other attractions, making it an important night-tour area in Fuzhou today.
Transportation is very convenient—you can take the metro, bus, or taxi. We walked over from Shangxia Hang, enjoying the street views along the way, which gave a different feeling.
Transportation:
· Metro: Take Line 1 and get off at "Dadao Station", then walk about 10 minutes from Exit C.
· Bus: Take routes like 10 or 15 and get off at "Youth Square Station", then walk about 600 meters along Jiangbin Middle Avenue.
Upon arriving at Jasmine Street, the first impression was great—the streets are wide and clean, and strolling along the Min River feels comfortable. However, since we visited during the day, it felt relatively quiet compared to the lively atmosphere when the lights come on at night.
If it's your first time in Fuzhou, I recommend visiting in the evening to enjoy the "Minjiang Heart" night view and light show—the overall ambiance should be even more charming.
After nightfall, the riverside lights illuminate, blending with the scenery along the Min River and historic buildings, creating a very romantic atmosphere and making it one of Fuzhou's popular night-tour landmarks.
This area combines Fuzhou's ancient city culture with modern urban landscapes, offering a completely different feel day and night. It's especially great for evening strolls, photos, and sightseeing.
After leaving Jasmine Street, we headed to the nearby "Yantai Mountain Commercial Pedestrian Street District" across the river. Yantai Mountain has become very popular in Fuzhou in recent years, combining historic districts with an artsy commercial area.
The area preserves many old Western-style buildings and adds cafés, dessert shops, lifestyle stores, and restaurants, giving it a Fuzhou-style artsy old street vibe.
Unfortunately, we visited during the May Day holiday, so the crowds were overwhelming—almost everywhere was packed with tourists, making empty shots nearly impossible. But the many people also made the district feel lively and festive.
Yantai Mountain feels different from Shangxia Hang. Shangxia Hang has more of a historic old street vibe, while Yantai Mountain has a younger, artsy atmosphere. The streets blend historic buildings with modern commercial spaces—many old houses have been converted into cafés, dessert shops, or unique boutiques. It's pleasant to walk around and great for photos.
Unlike enclosed malls, it's an open street design, perfect for leisurely strolls. Along the way, you'll see many people taking photos, especially with the old Western houses, stone steps, and greenery, which give it a charming exotic feel.
Since it was quite hot, we stopped at "RL POEM" for dessert and rest. The shop is famous for its large heart installation at the entrance, where many people stop for photos.
It serves Western dishes, coffee, and afternoon tea in a comfortable setting—perfect for resting tired feet.
Walking up from the lively Yantai Mountain commercial pedestrian area, passing through the scattered old Western houses and artsy shops, you'll reach "Yantai Mountain Park", which carries countless historical memories of Fuzhou. Its origins trace back to the late Yuan Dynasty, named after the beacon tower (Yantai) built on the mountain.
From the open viewpoints in the park, you can overlook the Min River and Zhongzhou Island in the distance—the breeze feels incredibly refreshing!
If you'd like to follow our route, here's a slight adjustment for a more perfect experience:
Morning: "Stroll Shangxia Hang Historic and Cultural Street", admire the Min merchants' guild halls, and enjoy a high-value lunch at Zhou Mapo.
Afternoon: Head to "Yantai Mountain Commercial Pedestrian Street", enjoy afternoon tea, take influencer-style photos in the old houses and streets, and soak in the slow-paced artsy vibe.
Evening: Return to "Jasmine Street (Minjiang Heart)" to enjoy the stunning Min River night view and river breeze, or book a night cruise on the Min River for a perfect ending to your second day in Fuzhou!
Fuzhou is truly a charming city where old and new, history and fashion blend just right.
Are Jasmine Street and Yantai Mountain worth visiting?
I think both spots are great additions to any Fuzhou itinerary. Especially if you enjoy walking tours, artsy districts, old architecture, and photo spots, you'll love the atmosphere here.
