This time on a free trip to Bangkok, I arranged a one-day private car tour. In the morning, I first went to worship the super special Maeklong Railway Market, then immediately headed to the renowned Damnoen Saduak Floating Market!
It's my first time strolling the market on a boat. This kind of water-village lifestyle is truly super special—an unforgettable and impressive experience!
The entire boat ride lasts about an hour, but it’s not filled with market stalls the whole time! Along the way you pass different river sections—some are lively clusters of small vendors, others are quiet waterfront stretches.
The bustling area isn’t large but has everything you need: The most lively, merchant-packed core area isn’t actually that big, yet the long-tail boats loaded with goods crisscrossing the water create a highly photogenic scene.
Diverse souvenirs and gifts: The variety of souvenirs here is quite rich—paintings, wood carvings, elephant-themed items, all kinds of bags, and Thai-style clothing can all be found. The small downside is that there’s quite a lot of repetition between stalls.
💡 Tip: Many people online mention that souvenirs and gifts at floating markets are usually priced a bit higher. Taking that into account and not wanting to haggle, we didn’t pick up any special souvenirs here.
Waterfront food to eat on the spot: The coolest part is being able to buy snacks right from the boat! Classic options include stir-fried rice noodles, the must-try coconut ice cream to beat the heat, and pickled guava… and more.
When you come here, you absolutely cannot miss the coconut ice cream that everyone gets! We bought one for just 60 Thai baht—rich, delicious, and refreshing. Highly recommended!
Overall, this is a very special spot where you can feel the strong local Thai culture. Although it’s inevitably quite commercial, it’s definitely an experience that leaves a deep impression. I highly recommend that anyone traveling to Bangkok come experience it in person!
