Although the weather in Kaohsiung is hot, there are many hot pot restaurants. Every time we travel to Kaohsiung, we often arrange a steaming hot pot for dinner. In recent years, we have tried several Kaohsiung stone hot pot restaurants, and this time we found a very local "Guochin Stone Hot Pot".
The store has no fancy decor and is not in the current popular influencer style, but it is the kind of old-school hot pot restaurant that makes people want to bring their family to eat. The free old-school black tea, generous portions, friendly service, and reasonable prices left our family very satisfied after the meal.
Guochin Stone Hot Pot is located on Yangming Road in Sanmin District, Kaohsiung. Its appearance looks like an old-fashioned eatery that has been deeply rooted in the local area for a long time. Without overly luxurious packaging, it adds a touch of southern warmth and nostalgia. Roadside parking is available when driving here.

Walking into the store, you can feel the strong family-style dining atmosphere. With little decoration and simple, unpretentious table and chair arrangements, it makes people feel relaxed and at ease.
The menu here offers a wide variety of choices. Hot pots come in small and large sizes, with meats ranging from classic snowflake beef and plum blossom pork to wagyu beef, all at affordable prices.
The store provides unlimited free old-school black tea, which is moderately sweet and refreshing, perfectly pairing with the rich stone hot pot. No need to order extra drinks during the meal.
That day, our family of four dined together and ordered a large snowflake beef hot pot for NT$460.
Additional à la carte items: US plate tendon beef NT$150, plum blossom pork slices NT$130, assorted seafood platter NT$250, fried spare ribs NT$70, long tofu skin NT$50, duck meatballs NT$50, Sanuki udon noodles NT$20, and 2 eggs NT$20.
When the hot pot was served, the store had already cooked all the hot pot ingredients and à la carte items like fried spare ribs, long tofu skin, and duck meatballs in the pot. The whole pot looked very abundant.
If you want the classic stir-fried meat aroma of stone hot pot, remember to circle the "stir-fry meat slices if needed" section on the menu when ordering. The store will stir-fry and aroma the meat slices in the cooking area before serving!
Please note that meat slices of different items will all be stir-fried together!
The assorted seafood platter and Sanuki udon noodles are served separately on plates. The seafood includes fresh shrimp, clams, fish slices, and baby squid, which are quite fresh and clean.
Side dishes include vermicelli and white rice to choose from. The large pot allows two choices; we picked white rice and vermicelli.
After the meat slices are stir-fried, they gain an aroma blended with onions and meat. When cooked in the broth, the texture is firm and not dry. The cabbage soaked in the broth is quite delicious, and the tofu skin is also very flavorful, becoming more aromatic the longer it cooks.
The broth, simmered with various ingredients, tastes fresh, sweet, and smooth, with a strong old-school flavor.
Halfway through the meal, everyone still had good fighting spirit and ordered extra corn, mini fish balls, and snowflake beef slices.
Guochin Stone Hot Pot may not be a particularly popular restaurant discussed online, but it is a friendly hot pot place that makes people want to return. With free old-school black tea, solid ingredients, the unique stir-fried meat aroma of stone hot pot, and affordable prices, it is suitable for family gatherings or friend meetups.
If you, like us, enjoy seeking out local old-school flavors or are looking for a hot pot restaurant in Kaohsiung where you can feast heartily, Guochin Stone Hot Pot can be added to your Kaohsiung food bucket list!
