Xiamen Fuzhou Trip Day5, after returning to Xiamen from Fuzhou, we checked into MokaHouse Seaview Resort Guesthouse in Zengcuo'an. After check-in, we naturally went straight to explore Zengcuo'an!
Zengcuo'an is one of Xiamen's popular tourist spots. Once there, you'll find yourself irresistibly eating and snapping photos along the way. The alleys hide all kinds of snacks, desserts, drink shops, and unique cultural-creative boutiques, plus a strong beach-resort vibe—perfect for a half-day of leisurely strolling.
Zengcuo'an is located in Siming District, Xiamen, near Huandao South Road and the coastline. It is also a well-known cultural-creative hub and food street in Xiamen. It is not far from popular attractions like Gulangyu, Shapowei, and Xiamen University.
Transportation:
Bus: Xiamen's bus system is very convenient. You can take routes 29, 47, B3, etc., and get off at "Zengcuo'an Station." Cross the road and you'll see the lively entrance to the area.
Taxi/Ride-hailing: If you have a lot of luggage or don't want to wait for the bus, simply hail a ride via your phone—it's the most time-saving and effortless option. Just get off at the main entrance of Zengcuo'an.
This time, since we stayed at a guesthouse near Zengcuo'an, we simply walked over.
Both sides of the street are lined with food stalls and restaurants, plus plenty of drink shops, souvenir stores, and unique boutiques. The alleys are filled with signs and lights, creating a lively yet relaxed seaside-city atmosphere.
There are many winding alleys here—turning a corner often reveals new shops and snacks, making it ideal for slow exploration. However, the weather was quite hot on the day we visited. We originally planned to eat a lot, but after just a few items we already felt full.
Visiting Zengcuo'an really doesn't require much advance planning—there is simply too much delicious food along the way. Just eat whatever looks good!
Tangguanzhi Sugar Handmade Sweet Soup
Our first stop was Tangguanzhi Sugar Handmade Sweet Soup, where we ordered the Tangguan Double Skin Milk and Tangguan Grand Slam. On a hot day, a bowl of chilled sweet soup feels incredibly refreshing. The double skin milk is silky smooth with just the right sweetness, while the Grand Slam is loaded with a variety of toppings and fruits—very satisfying overall.
Jian'ou Meat Pie
Wooden trays are piled high with freshly baked, golden, crispy meat pies. The crust is coated with sesame seeds and shatters with a satisfying crunch, releasing a smoky charcoal aroma. Inside, scallion fragrance and meat juices blend together—delicious when eaten hot, and the portion is just right for eating while walking.
Shunchang Stuffed Egg
Next, we tried Shunchang Stuffed Egg. Before tasting it, I kept wondering what "stuffed egg" actually was—there were so many shops selling it! This traditional snack requires great skill: the vendor "stuffs" meat filling into raw duck egg yolk before cooking. The result has a tender, eggy outer layer and a firm, meaty center. If you haven't tried it, it's worth a taste.
Because of the heat, we later bought some freshly cut fruit. When traveling in Xiamen during summer, staying hydrated is essential. There is a wide variety of fruit, cut into convenient bite-sized pieces—perfect for eating on the go.
Besides the abundant food, another big draw of Zengcuo'an is the beach and shoreline right beside it. After eating, you can stroll to the sea and enjoy the ocean breeze—truly relaxing.
Although it was hot and crowded that day, being able to see the sea view right next to the lively streets still feels very soothing. Many people sit on the sand chatting or strolling, giving the whole place a strong vacation vibe.
When planning a free-and-easy trip to Xiamen, you can combine Zengcuo'an with nearby attractions such as Xiamen University, Shapowei, Huandao Road, and Hulishan Fortress—all within easy reach and ideal for a full-day itinerary.
After leaving Fuzhou and returning to Xiamen, I really enjoyed the relaxed, slow-paced vibe of Zengcuo'an. The alleys are packed with delicious food—you can eat and take photos while wandering for quite a while. Plus, the beach is right there, so after eating you can walk along the shore and enjoy the sea breeze. The overall travel rhythm feels very comfortable.
