Changhua Minsheng Commercial District / Creative Taiwanese-style Boiled Dishes in an Old House

Located near Changhua City’s Minsheng Commercial District, “Chien Ho Creative Fresh Food Boil” is housed in a historic old residence on Changshou Street. The exterior retains the character of an old commercial guild building and easily catches the eye when passing by. 

Inside, the vibrant orange walls create a striking contrast with the old-house exterior. A prominent artificial cherry blossom tree placed in the center of the dining area adds a lively visual highlight.

At the back corner, there is a self-service area for utensils and sauces where customers can help themselves according to personal taste. Today we tried the house miso sauce—savory and smooth, pairing nicely with the ingredients. Highly recommended.

Chien Ho Creative Fresh Food Boil specializes in fresh boiled dishes similar to oden. The broth options include Tonkotsu Bonito Broth, Apple Kombu Broth, Secret Spicy Broth, and Nourishing White Broth. There are also various handmade meatballs, à la carte side dishes, and main courses such as Minced Pork Udon and Scallion Oil Minced Pork Rice.

This time we ordered the “Meat Lover’s Fresh Boil” paired with “Scallion Oil Minced Pork Rice.” The rice is cooked to a perfect fluffy texture and topped with fragrant scallion oil minced pork, delivering a rich savory flavor in every bite. It was so enjoyable that the whole bowl disappeared quickly.

The fresh boil dishes come with a variety of seasonal vegetables and meatballs, resembling an upgraded version of oden. We chose the “Meat Lover’s Fresh Boil,” which includes extra pork slices for a more satisfying meal. The spicy duck blood and spicy tofu were both excellent—absorbing the broth well and delivering good heat and texture. Particularly memorable were the traditional Ageh (stuffed tofu pouch) with its firm texture and Q-bouncy filling, plus a fresh crunch from the vegetables, and the pumpkin balls with visible pumpkin puree inside, offering a natural sweetness. The Secret Spicy Broth we paired it with was medium-spicy. (Ingredients vary by day.)
