Baihao Zen Temple in Mingjian Township, Nantou County, was founded by the mountain-opening master Venerable Shi Chanxin. It is located on a mountainside at an altitude of over 100 meters and covers an area of more than three hectares. The entire temple complex features a calm gray-white color scheme, highlighting the tranquility and harmony of the surrounding environment. This place is not only a spiritual home for devotees to worship devoutly, but also provides all visitors with an excellent space to settle their thoughts and achieve inner peace.
At Baihao Zen Temple, the entrance at the foot of the mountain features a pure white wall contrasting with the bright orange-red pagoda roof, outlining the solemn image of the entrance.
Visitors arriving by car can drive up the hillside road. There is open space in the square in front of Baihao Zen Temple for parking, making it convenient for pilgrims.
Baihao Zen Temple exudes a tranquil and steady Japanese Zen-style architectural aesthetic. Strolling through it, one feels the serenity of the environment everywhere, allowing visitors to cast off worldly noise and relax their minds.
The main hall of Baihao Zen Temple features a roof decorated with fine patterns resembling countless stars, creating a visual effect like a brilliant starry sky and adding a religious atmosphere of serene profundity and cosmic vastness to the solemn Buddha hall. Inside the main hall are enshrined the "Two Buddhas Sitting Side by Side" statues of Shakyamuni Buddha and Prabhutaratna Buddha, embodying the vast realm of the Lotus Sutra and showcasing the perfection and compassion of the Dharma. Flanked by numerous exquisite small Buddha statues, they further highlight the solemnity of the Buddha and the breadth and depth of the teachings.
Beyond the main hall, three wooden Buddhist halls filled with Japanese Zen ambiance stand in the square: the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Great Vow Hall, and the Great Compassion Hall. The structure and design of these halls further accentuate the temple's overall style, providing different spaces for practice and worship.
The most impressive feature inside Baihao Zen Temple is the massive "Awakening Bell" weighing 100,000 kilograms. The surface of the bell is meticulously engraved with the complete Ksitigarbha Sutra, every word and phrase embodying the wisdom of the Dharma. Devotees can come here to reverently strike the bell, praying for peace and blessings of wisdom.
Standing on the platform of the Awakening Bell Tower, the view suddenly opens up, offering a panoramic vista of the majestic Bagua Mountain Range and National Freeway 3. The scenery here, whether natural landscapes or cultural scenes, conveys a sense of serene and far-reaching beauty.
