For our independent Kyushu trip, we chose Fukuoka as the first stop of our journey. Compared to regular business hotels, for family travel we prefer finding accommodations with more space, convenient living facilities, and comfortable enough to feel like staying in our own home even for several nights.
「SG RESIDENCE INN HAKATA」 has no luxurious lobby and does not follow a high-end hotel route; instead, it leans more toward the residential feel of a local Japanese apartment. The room has a small kitchen and a washing machine, allowing us to prepare simple dinners or late-night snacks ourselves—very convenient for independent travelers.
If traveling to Fukuoka with family or friends, this type of apartment-style accommodation is actually more suitable than regular hotels.
SG RESIDENCE INN HAKATA is located in Higashiko 2-chome, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City. It is about an 8- to 10-minute walk from JR Hakata Station and is also close to Subway Higashi-Hie Station, making it convenient whether taking the Shinkansen, subway, or heading to Fukuoka Airport.

The property uses a very modern, convenient self-check-in system. The first floor has a self-service check-in counter with a tablet thoughtfully provided on the desk.
The system offers a clear multilingual interface including Chinese. You can simply select “Enter Check-in ID” or “Scan QR Code” to complete the process. This quick, contactless self check-in and check-out design not only saves waiting time but is also worry-free and efficient for travelers arriving after a long journey. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
Upon arrival, the first impression was that it was more spacious than expected. Although it is not a luxury hotel, the overall environment is clean and bright, and the common areas are well maintained.
The elevator goes directly to each floor, so there is no need to carry luggage up stairs—much easier for those traveling with large suitcases.
The room features a minimalist design with no excessive decoration, yet it includes almost all necessary equipment. Staying here feels a bit like renting your own small apartment in Fukuoka.
We stayed in a one-bedroom apartment, which is well suited for families or friends traveling together.
The room configuration includes two double beds and one sofa bed, accommodating up to 5 people. However, three to four guests will feel more comfortable; if five travelers stay with large suitcases, the space becomes slightly tighter.
Upon entering, you reach the living area with a sofa, coffee table, and TV. After a day of shopping, sitting here to chat, sort through purchases, or plan the next day’s itinerary is very convenient.
Compared to regular business hotels that only have beds, the extra common activity space significantly improves overall comfort.
My favorite feature is the small kitchen in the room. Although it is not a large kitchen, the basic equipment is quite complete, including an induction cooktop, microwave, refrigerator, sink, electric kettle, tableware, and cookware. If you bring back fruit, drinks, or simple ingredients from the supermarket, you can handle them yourself.
Sometimes after eating out for several days, returning to the accommodation and cooking a simple bowl of instant noodles feels especially satisfying.
Having a washing machine is a real plus. The biggest worry during independent travel is accumulating dirty clothes. SG RESIDENCE INN HAKATA provides a washing machine directly in the room, so there is no need to go to a coin laundry.
It is very practical for those planning multi-day trips.
The bathroom is kept very clean, with bathtub, sink, and toilet facilities all complete and stable hot water supply. After walking 10,000–20,000 steps a day, returning to the room for a hot bath really helps relieve fatigue.
When traveling in Japan, the kids always clamor to buy instant noodles and beef at the supermarket right after landing. Staying in an apartment-style hotel with a small kitchen these past few days perfectly satisfies their inner foodie souls. Before returning to the hotel, the whole family always stops by the supermarket to pick up a pack of beautifully marbled beef, then pairs it with classic Japanese instant noodles.
Back in the room, while the noodles are bubbling hot, adding the tender beef turns it into an ultra-luxurious “homemade wagyu ramen”!
Our stay at 「SG RESIDENCE INN HAKATA」 left the whole family very satisfied. It successfully blurs the line between “hotel” and “home,” offering the high degree of freedom and ultimate convenience unique to apartments while maintaining clean and refined hardware details.
