Besides soaking in hot springs in Yilan Jiaoxi, you definitely can't miss the food! This time we came to eat at 「塭底烤魚」. Actually, we had tried the Dahu branch of 塭底烤魚 many years ago, but we never knew the original store was right here in Jiaoxi.
It just so happened that we recently saw there was one in Jiaoxi, and our eldest son loves grilled fish, so we arranged to make a pilgrimage during this Yilan trip!
塭底烤魚 is located at No. 572, Sec. 2, Yulong Rd., Jiaoxi Township. The most convenient way to get there is by car; just set the navigation to 「塭底烤魚」 and you'll arrive. There's parking space right next to the restaurant. From downtown Jiaoxi, it's about an 8-minute drive, making it perfect for a Jiaoxi day trip or as a stop on an Yilan food itinerary.

The exterior of the restaurant is quite low-key—not a fancy, decorated place, but more like a traditional Taiwanese stir-fry eatery. A large lantern sign hangs at the entrance, and right beside it is a fish pond, giving the whole place a strong local Yilan vibe.
Many people dine here, mostly families or regular customers.
The space at the Jiaoxi main store is larger than expected. The decor is simple and rustic, divided into roughly three dining areas, so even on busy holidays it doesn't feel too crowded. Because the space is spacious, it's great for group meals or family gatherings, and it's more comfortable to bring kids along.
Plus, unlimited rice is available for dine-in, which is a big plus for anyone who loves pairing stir-fries with rice!
In addition to the signature grilled fish, 塭底烤魚 also offers various stir-fries, seafood, vegetables, soups, and more. There are plenty of choices, and the prices are reasonable. This time we ordered: Salt-Grilled Fish, Matsusaka Pork, Loofah with Clams, and Fried Rice.

Salt-Grilled Fish $500
The signature salt-grilled fish looks impressive when served—the whole fish is wrapped in a thick layer of white salt like a giant salt block.
The most fun part is that you don't eat it right away—you have to use a large spoon to slowly crack open the salt yourself, then peel back the fish skin. The whole process feels ceremonial, and the kids found it super novel.
The fish meat is tender and sweet, with a natural fish aroma. It tastes great without needing much seasoning. Our eldest son loved it and spent almost the entire meal carefully picking out the fish meat.
Matsusaka Pork $380
The Matsusaka pork is seared until the skin is slightly charred and fragrant. The thin slices are just the right thickness and very easy to eat. It has a bouncy texture with a bit of crispness, and the more you chew, the more flavorful it becomes.
Loofah with Clams $280
After the heavy-flavored grilled fish, we naturally wanted a refreshing vegetable dish. The emerald-green loofah retains its sweetness and has a soft, tender texture, paired with the fresh, savory broth from the clams. Every bite is naturally sweet and perfect for drizzling over rice.
Fried Rice $80
Even though unlimited rice is available for dine-in, Junjun still wanted fried rice, so we ordered a plate for him. The stir-frying technique is excellent—the rice grains are distinct, evenly coated with egg and sakura shrimp aroma, and carry a subtle wok hei. The kids loved it.
Dining at 塭底烤魚 pairs well with nearby Jiaoxi attractions such as Jiaoxi Hot Spring Park, Wufengqi Waterfall, Linmei Shipan Trail, and Longtan Lake. After eating, you can soak your feet, take a walk, or grab a coffee—making your Yilan trip very fulfilling.
This visit to 塭底烤魚, watching our eldest son eat with gusto and the whole family laughing while knocking the salt block, was the best part of the trip.
