Shiding Yi Li Zong is a must-try old street delicacy in Shiding District, New Taipei, and has been recommended by many news media. It is known for its variety of meat zong, offering not only northern-style zong but also steamed southern-style zong to choose from. Signature items include pork rib crispy meat zong, southern hometown zong, and authentic Hakka Guo Zong.
The zong from this shop taste quite authentic with generous fillings. Especially the Hakka Guo Zong, which has a wonderfully chewy texture that I really love. If you visit Shiding Old Street, you definitely should bring a few home.

The storefront of 「Shiding Yi Li Zong」 is located along the road outside Shiding East Street. The signboard is quite recognizable—it looks like a cute zong shape upon closer inspection. Although the exterior is simple, the green awning hides many delicious treats waiting to be discovered. I was only focused on the Hakka Guo Zong until writing this post, when I realized their signature is the pork rib crispy meat zong. I’m really disappointed I didn’t get to try it this time.
Shiding Yi Li Zong Menu is prominently displayed on the wall, with photos for each flavor as reference. For example, the lion head vegetarian zong has no photo, so the shop thoughtfully included the actual appearance. There are up to eight options, from 「authentic Hakka Guo Zong」 to 「traditional old-school」 meat zong, each marked with size, price, and even calorie content. Every zong is quite high in calories, so friends watching their weight should not eat too many.
Shiding Yi Li Zong not only offers delicious zong, but the indoor dining area also has character—though calling it indoor is a bit odd since the seating is right beside the main road.
The dining area features a large colorful mural on one wall themed around nostalgic Shiding Old Street scenes, depicting traditional red brick houses with wooden lattice windows and a person in an apron holding a zong while calling out, wearing a 「zong-wrapping」 hat. It is truly filled with old-school charm.
I absolutely love this Hakka zong! Besides eating one on-site, I also took three home. Their Guo Zong is incredibly memorable—made from rice batter, it has a remarkably chewy texture, especially the outer part, which puts up a good fight against your teeth.
The filling is packed with ingredients—bite into it and the stuffing almost bursts out! Inside are well-marinated minced meat, diced shiitake mushrooms, and my favorite preserved radish. These are classic Hakka Guo Zong components. The chewy skin and savory filling blend perfectly with balanced saltiness and sweetness that hits the spot. Highly recommended!
This southern zong, which often sparks debates between northern and southern diners, is not just leaf-wrapped rice. After peeling off the leaves, it is drizzled with the shop’s special sauce—doesn’t the color look tempting?
Inside you can see a whole large shiitake mushroom and peanuts. The grains remain chewy yet slightly soft and glutinous. At the center are salted egg yolk and braised meat, which pair well, but I still prefer northern-style zong!
As for whether 「Shiding Yi Li Zong」 is worth a special trip, I think it’s fine to stop by if you’re passing through, unless you’re a zong enthusiast. Since zong are high in calories, it’s not ideal to eat too many. We only detoured here while visiting Hu Ye Temple; otherwise, the transportation is quite inconvenient.
However, the variety here is great—from savory pork rib crispy meat zong, southern hometown zong, to chewy Hakka Guo Zong, each flavor has its unique appeal. Whether you like traditional old-school tastes or want to try something special, you can buy some to enjoy while strolling Shiding Old Street.
