Beautiful Temple Standing Atop the Mountain Castle ~ Hiroshima Onomichi Senkōji Temple
This time in Japan, I started playing the recently popular Pikmin and came to Onomichi Senkōji Temple in Hiroshima, where I got a beautiful mushroom postcard—super happy!
Located in Onomichi City on the eastern side of Hiroshima, to visit Senkōji Park at the mountaintop, we first need to take the cable car.
The guide went ahead to buy the cable car tickets.
While waiting, I noticed a freight train connected to containers nearby—super impressive.
Heading over to board the cable car.
Keep the cable car ticket, as it will still be needed on the way down.
The beautiful scenery nestled between mountains and sea can be viewed from the cable car overlooking Onomichi's waterway.
And the mountain castle full of cultural atmosphere.
Senkōji Temple can already be seen from the cable car.
Below there are also winding stone paths. The guide said that after reaching the mountaintop, walking up leads to the observation deck, while walking down leads to Senkōji Temple. There are two paths downward: the left one is easier, while the right one is a more challenging stone path.
After arriving, we still chose to go left to visit Senkōji Temple, though the stone path on the right also looked beautiful—just more challenging.
Up close, we visited their bell tower; the bright red color of the torii gate is really nice.
Inside is enshrined the Thousand-Armed Kannon.
The entire scenery of Senkōji Temple is very beautiful.
There are also strangely shaped large rocks, all named.
Next to it, there are also small souvenir charms for sale.
A wall of wish-fulfilling Rilakkuma cards covered with heartfelt wishes.
From the mountainside, you can also see the scenery of Onomichi.
Following the same path back, it's truly easier to go down than up.
But we still rushed first to visit the observation deck.
The curved slope can be walked, but we chose to take the elevator up.
The beautiful mountain and water scenery is even more fully visible.
