Guanyin Waterfall is located at around the 64 km mark on Provincial Highway 14 (Puwu Highway) in Puli Township, Nantou County. Heading from downtown Puli toward Wushe, you will reach the vicinity of Guanyin Waterfall.
Because the entrance to Guanyin Waterfall is right beside the Puwu Highway, transportation is quite convenient. It is also a natural attraction that many people visit while traveling to Qingjing or Wushe.
After arriving, you can park your vehicle in the parking lot near the Guanyin Waterfall entrance and then walk to the waterfall area.
Starting from the Guanyin Waterfall trail entrance, the first tier waterfall is about 200 meters from the trailhead. This section of the trail is well-maintained, primarily consisting of stairs and concrete paths, so you can see the first tier waterfall after a short walk.
During this visit, rainfall was abundant and stream flow along the way was plentiful. Walking through the lush green mountains, you can listen to the sound of flowing water the entire way.
After viewing the first tier waterfall, you can continue to the scenic stair tower. The scenic stair tower is one of the most noticeable new facilities after this renovation. The stairs connect upward to the trail, making the route to the upper waterfalls clearer.
Climbing the stairs, you are surrounded by lush greenery, adding a touch of forest scenery compared to a typical hiking trail.
Continuing toward the second tier waterfall, you can see streams almost the entire way.
Clear stream water occasionally flows down from the rock walls, forming various streams and small waterfall scenes.
Walking through the shaded forest, enjoying the green mountains while listening to the sound of streams, this trail offers a particularly refreshing feeling during hot summer days.
Another impressive aspect of visiting Guanyin Waterfall this time was the butterfly ecology.
The middle section of the Guanyin Waterfall trail features a butterfly path lined with nectar plants such as Lantana, attracting butterflies to feed.
During the visit, we spotted a beautiful White Dragontail.
The Nantou County Scenic Area Administration has positioned Guanyin Waterfall as a site for butterfly natural ecology education. Therefore, in addition to the waterfalls, friends interested in nature and butterfly watching can also pay attention to the flowers, plants, and butterflies along the trail.
After passing the middle section, the trail gradually becomes dominated by wooden boardwalks. Continuing along the boardwalk, you can see the second tier waterfall.
The path is filled with forest greenery. The wooden boardwalk winds between mountain walls and streams, occasionally allowing you to see stream water flowing alongside. If you enjoy forest trails, waterfalls, and stream scenery, this section will be very appealing.
Before reaching the third tier waterfall, there is a steeper wooden boardwalk section known as the "Haohan Slope." This section requires continuous upward climbing, and you will clearly feel the increased gradient compared to the earlier gentle sections.
If you are not used to climbing stairs, take it slow and steady—no need to rush. After reaching the top, you will be rewarded with the most spectacular third tier of Guanyin Waterfall.
Finally arriving at the most anticipated third tier of Puli Guanyin Waterfall!
The third tier is also the most spectacular sight of the entire Guanyin Waterfall, with a drop of about 60 meters. A large volume of stream water rushes down the mountain wall, forming a magnificent white water curtain.
After walking through the forest trail, wooden boardwalk, and the final Haohan Slope, standing on the viewing platform and looking ahead, you can feel the mist generated by the falling waterfall. Especially when water volume is high, the waterfall's grandeur is even more pronounced.
Visiting in summer, the fine water vapor carried by mountain breezes through the waterfall also brings a refreshing coolness to the hot weather.
Although the final Haohan Slope requires some physical effort, when the 60-meter-high third tier waterfall appears before you, you will feel that the journey was truly worthwhile.
